Campout Fall 2012 
Grab your sleeping bag and
let's sing!
For the first time ever, Union Activities Board held its annual Fall Campout in the PNC Arena. We waded through crowds of people and were careful not to step on sleeping bag's until we finally reached the arena. On the basketball court we are see our very own Stephen Williams playing in a 3 vs. 3 basketball game. We jump on stage in a new flannel look and Stephen runs off the court and jumps up there with us still donning his basketball garb and we sing some Beyonce and Gavin Degraw. We always love performing for fellow members of the wolfpack because they are always the most supportive. The event also featured the Ladies in Red, the NCSU cheerleading and dance teams, Dance Visions, and an impressive freestyle rap battle. A good time was had by all!

Varsity Vocal Showcase 
It's that time of year!
The day started at 5:30 am as we rushed to the fairgrounds to perform for NBC 17 News. Then the sun rose and we attended the fair later that day. Following several hours of rides, games, and deep fried foods we had the pleasure of singing at the North Carolina State Fair's first annual Varsity Vocal Showcase. We suited up in our navy blazers and sang four of our favorite songs with all the energy we had. We had so much fun, but we were not the only voices to fill Dorton Arena that night. Our sister group, Ladies in Red, gave a fabulous performance as did the UNC Clefhangers and Loreleis and Duke's Rhythm and Blue. It was such a great day for collegiate a Capella that they even set off fireworks! (OK they do that every night of the fair, but we will pretend it was for singing)

Grains welcome New Members
We were overwhelmed by the great talent that came out for auditions.
It was a tough decision, but we finally picked six guys to join
our group. Their names are Brooks Jordan, Cole Pellatt, Bob Nelson,
Justin Mauney, Ben Millhouse, and Cameron Reaves. For their first
semester they are refered to as "grits" (GRains In Training) and
will undergo a series of steps before becoming full grains. We
are thrilled to find out what they will bring to the group!

Good friends, good food, and good times
We were so honored to perform for the Board of County Comissioners
in the beautiful Daily Planet theater at the Museum of Natural
Science. As we stood in the center of a gigantic globe we sang
an hour of music to a four story audience. It turned out to be
one of the most interactive gigs we've ever done. We sang The
Temptations classic hit, "My Girl" to a woman named Bidgy and
a brave man named Phillip joined us to sing two songs. We then
asked Meredith (In picture) to join us for another "My Girl" and
then a young boy named Noah (Also in picture) sang "Halo" with
our tenor, Trevon Nelson.
As a group of college kids we are content with eating Ramen and Pizza, but we don't complain when we are offered some amazing locally grown, organic meals. The Grains indulged in catfish, shrimp and grits, barbeque, and some amazing deserts.
We all left with full bellies and smiles on our faces and we know that Noah and Meredith must have felt the same. It was a fun night!

Grains kick off the school year!
We were thrilled to welcome new and returning students at the
annual "Welcome Back Pack" Festival. After several great performances
by other NC State groups (The Marching Band, various dance groups,
The American Sign Language Club, and many more) we got to take
the stage and sing three of our favorite tunes. After us, the
Ladies In Red (NC State's female a capella group) did a set, but
it was interrupted by the rain. The true fans stuck it out to
the end!
The event was fun and a great way for us to kick off a new year of singing. Here is to a great semester!
